Elementor came as a default on my wordpress template. The homepage has been completed without using it. I went into elementor and visited the ‘homepage’ there oblivious to the fact that elementor highjacks the content and publishes a weird version over the top of the content I already had.
I want to remove elementor entirely to restore the old page.. but is this what will happen? Or if elementor is removed will it completely remove all homepage content (including the edits I have made to the page without elementor being involved)
Any insight or help greatly appreciated.

Hi toddy,
I suspect you are not 100% familiar yet with Elementor.
If you have created your homepage without using the “Elementor” tab, all should still look the same after deactivating or even deleting Elementor. However, as soon as you hit the “elementor tab” while in edit mode, all will show within an Elementor layout.
I visited your site, but can not see anything wrong so far.
This is how it looks at my end: https://snag.gy/O3jJxt.jpgSo actually, installing and activating Elementor, will not set Elementor as “default”.
It only adds the button “edit with Elementor”. If you do not use that and just edit a page in the default WordPress editor, deactivating Elementor will not let you lose your content or layout, because you did not use it on that page.
I would strongly advise you to install a good backup and migration plugin like : all in one migration” before you make any more changes.
Take a backup ( you have to do this anyway if you do not want to lose your work if for whatever reason, something goes terribly wrong )and migrate a copy to a subfolder on the same domain.
There you can test all sort of things without harming or messing up the live site.
You can see what happens there if you deactivate Elementor too.Hi,
I just tested it myself, to make sure.
I created a page and added text and foto with the default WordPress editor and saved it.
After that I went back into that page and clicked on “edit with Elementor”.My previous work just got nicely incorperated into Elementor elements and all looks well on the front end after saving it with elementor as well.
After that I went back in and clicked on the “return to the default WordPress editor”
All went back to default and after saving it that way all looked normal also.So you should not get all these messed up things ( although I can not seem to see the strange duplicate content? ) but I do not know ofcourse how it looked before..
When I inspect your source code, I can see a mix of plugins like:
cpo-companion
custom-share-buttons-with-floating-sidebar/
jquery-t-countdown-widget/
kiwi-social-share/
modula-best-grid-gallery/
owl-carousel-wp/
and more like JetpackIt would not surprise me that adding all these in combo with elementor, could get very “confusing” to the page and maybe be responsible for the messed up layout.
I do wonder why you are adding so much plugins ( read: accident waiting to happen sooner or later to cause conflicts ).
Why not use Elementor as it can cover almost any of those things and just relax and enjoy building your pages with Elementor?
I would advise using a theme like OceanWP that has proven to play well with Elementor.
I use it in 50+ sites and shops.Annie
You seem to be using this theme:
https://cpothemes.com/theme/allegiantIt seems to have its own layout features etc. This can also confict with Elementor.
Better choose a theme that is known to be compatible with Elementor! 🙂Annie
